What is it and what's it for?

Think of this pump as a straw with muscle: instead of taking already-pressurized water from the mains, it sits outside the well or cistern and uses a jet system to suck water up from below and then push it out with constant pressure toward your irrigation system — a pressure switch turns it on and off on its own, just like the tank in a house with its own well.

• At home: Your home has a shallow well in the backyard (not very deep, up to about 23 feet) that you don't currently use for anything — this pump turns it into your irrigation system's water source, without depending on municipal pressure or water usage.
• In a business or workshop: A small nursery or farm with its own shallow well handles both extraction and pressure with one compact unit, without needing the fixed installation and higher cost of a deep-well submersible pump.

How to avoid buying the wrong one

• It's for a SHALLOW well only (up to 25 ft / 7.6 m deep) — if your well is deeper than that, this pump won't be able to lift the water; you need a deep-well submersible pump instead.
• Unlike the AQUASTRONG in this ranking, it isn't self-priming out of the box: you have to fill the housing with water through the priming port before the first start, and add a foot valve at the end of the suction hose so water doesn't drain back between uses.
• It ships factory-set to 240V — most US household outlets are 120V, so check the voltage selector (or have an electrician do it) before plugging it in; don't assume it runs straight off any standard outlet.
